Irene

Region

  • Villa Irene is located in the heart of the traditional Cypriot village Tremithousa
  • 4 km north of the administrative, and cultural cente of Paphos (Pafos) town.
  • The upmarket community of Tala is within 5 min drive from the Villa offering a number of interesting restaurant.
  • the sands of Coral Bay are only a 15 minute drive away
  • Tsada golf course is less than 10 mins up the road while the Secret Valley and Aphrodite Hills are only less than 20 mins away

Tremithousa

The village Tremithousa is located about 4 kilometers northeast of the city of Pafos. Because of the close distance from Pafos the
village is also known as Tremithousa of Pafos. The village is built at an average altitude of 270 meters. Its area has a general inclination from the northeast to the southwest and the altitude ranges from 150 to 500 meters.

Vines of winemaking varieties, vegetables, cereals, forage plants, citrus, almond, and walnut trees, and legumes are cultivated in the region. The village has a reputation for the aromatic and tasty honey that it produces. In the 2001 census the inhabitants numbered 700

The village existed during the Medieval years and -during the era of Frank domination -administratively it belonged to the village of Empa. It probably is the village that was granted in 1375 -along with others -to Tibaldi Belfarang by King Peter II of Cyprus as a reward for the services he offered in the war against the Genoese.

Tremithousa took its name because of the "Tremithia". Tremithia (Terebinth) is a tree that was found in large quantities in the surrounding area. Thus the name Tremithousa or Trimithousa implies an area that is filled with Terebinth trees. Indeed, in the old times the village was known for its production of "Pafitiki Pissa" (gum of Pafos), which is made out of the resin of the Terebinth tree

.Today , because of the very good climate of the region, as well as the unique panoramic view of the village, the area around the village started to develop with luxurious villas but the village still preserves its quiet rustic charm.

Tala

Tala has now become a very sought after area for residence, in view of its elevated location in the hills above Pafos. It's panoramic views of Pafos & the surrounding area make it an ideal place to live for those who don't want the hustle & bustle of town life, but don't want to be too far away from it either. Tala houses an international community, and offers a range of tavernas and restaurants for the visitor.

The even more tranquil enviroment of St Neophytos Monastery is nearby and well worth a visit.

Kato Paphos
The capital of the west and positively teeming with history is Paphos, site of the island's second international airport. The resort town (Kato Pafos) has as its focal point a charming fishing harbour by Paphos Fort, lined with open-air cafes and tavernas that serve a tempting menu of the day's

It was on Paphos shoreline that the mythological Goddess Aphrodite was born, a legend that spawned a massive wave of cult worship from neighbouring countries that lasted several centuries. The large rock that juts from the sea is known as 'Petra tou Romiou' - The Venus Rock - while the Baths of Aphrodite at Polis also echoes her apparent penchant for the island. At Palaepaphos, Kouklia lie the remains of the Goddess' earliest Sanctuary.

Another 'first' for Paphos was its early recognition of Christianity. While under Roman rule in 45 A.D., it was here that Saint Paul converted the first ruler to the faith.

The legacy from its remarkable history adds up to nothing less than an open museum, so much so that UNESCO simply added the whole town to its World Cultural Heritage List. Among the treasures iiiK-arlhed, are the remarkable mosaics in the Houses of Dionysos, Theseus and Aion, beautifully preserved after 16 centuries under the soil. Then there are the mysterious vaults and caves, the Tombs of the Kings, the Pillar to which Saint Paul was allegedly tied and whipped, the ancient Odeon Theatre and other places of interest including the Byzantine Museum and the its Archaeological Museum.

Unavoidably, sooner or later, the children in the group will have had enough of culture, nature and "old ruins", and a day at Aphrodite's massive water park (a few minutes drive away) will get everybody excited for days before and thrilled and content for days after. Of course you can join in as well (if you dare!).

Coral Bay

The popular resort of Coral Bay is less than 5 minutes away and it offers everything you need for a perfect holiday. The resort centre is lined with shops, bars and restaurants serving a choice of local and international cuisine.

In the day, life is based around the idyllic sandy bay, where the calm shallow waters makes excellent bathing for children and there is a wide selection of water-sports available on the beachfront.

Golf in Cyprus, Golf Courses in Cyprus

Cyprus Golf holidays -
Cyprus now has 3 golf courses in the Paphos area on the southwest corner of the island. More than enough to keep you occupied for your holiday. In addition to this planning permission has been granted for further courses to be developed so making Cyprus a new golf destination. The jewel in the crown is of course the new Aphrodite Hills completed in November 2002. The Tsada Golf Club is within 10 mins from the villa while the other two are less than half an hour away. A brief description of the 3 Paphos Cyprus golf courses follows.

The Aphrodite Hills Golf Club

Imagine a vision of sunny skies and world class sport, picture an undulating course dotted with olive and carob trees, manicured fairways and challenging pot bunkers overlooking the sea, a journey that begins with enthusiasm and ends in immense satisfaction. Aphrodite sits atop 2 plateaus overlooking the Mediterranean coastline and the fabled birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite - the Petra tou Romiou (the Rock of Venus).

The 6,665 meter-long course is a par 71 designed by Cabell B. Robinson. The five tee positions give every golfer a fair chance. This great complex includes an academy par 3 course for learners; an excellent 350m double ended driving range off grass. 4 target greens with bunkers and a short game practice area. It has 2 resident professional instructors. The spacious and well-appointed clubhouse has a pro-shop and locker rooms, and the bar and restaurant terraces afford the most magnificent views over the coastline and out to sea.

The Secret Valley Golf Club

The Secret Valley Golf Club is 18km east of Paphos, very close to the Petra tou Romiou, and lies in a scenic valley of many-coloured rock formations, softened by the planting of many trees and flowering shrubs along the fairways. This is only 5 minutes from Aphrodite Hills. This is a par 71 course of 5,904 meters in length, and offers practice facilities including chipping areas with bunkers and putting greens. The wooden-built clubhouse is similar to that at Tsada, with a veranda overlooking the man-made lake and flowering gardens. You can walk this course or take a buggy

The Tsada Golf Club

The Tsada Golf Club is an elevated 18-hole grass course set on the hills of the Monastery of Stavros tis Mhintis. You may actually see the monks walking in their gardens - a very romantic setting for your game! This par 72 course covers 6,060 meters in length and most of the fairways are on hillsides, making the course more interesting.

The wooden-built clubhouse has a bar and restaurant with terrace overlooking the course and landscape beyond. This course is about half an hour from Aphrodite Hills. You can walk this course or take a buggy.
